PepsiCo

Type: Facility Addition
Location: Barrington, Illinois

Size: 3000 SQ FT
Completion: 2006

In an attempt to keep its image fresh, PepsiCo was looking to create an addition to its existing facility. Executives with the nationally branded company envisioned the configuration of a cafeteria, entryway and patio within a very restricted space.

The challenge of this project was to apply as many functions as possible one minimally sized addition. In taking design cues from the building’s existing exterior, the design team created a visually extended façade using long, linear lines accented with limestone, while the glass “box” gives the façade energy and movement. The use of natural light gives the addition an open feel, helping to make the space feel larger.

By collaborating with PepsiCo representatives, Brent Widler and staff of designers were able to translate the client’s concepts into a concrete design.
