The City of Chicago’s Special Parks Commission established Winamac Park in 1910, and shortly thereafter, the commission graded and landscaped the former truck farm, installing a number of athletic fields. The park was renovated in 1999 with improvements including the addition of 200 trees, a scenic prairie garden and nature trail, three softball fields, a soccer field and new walkways, decorative lights and fencing.

The renovations also called for an overhaul of Winamac Stadium. Tapping a team of architects led by Brent Widler, the city was looking for updated amenities while maintaining the aesthetics of the original construction. The team, in turn, conceptualized an era-specific design for a new press box, new scoreboard, entry gates, ticket booth and vending stand for this historic city stadium on Chicago’s North Side.

Now complete, the stadium’s improvements blend seamlessly into the existing, historic construction of the structure. Most notably, the stadium’s concession stands and ticket booth complement the history of this neighborhood landmark through creative design and reproduced materials.
