LAKE SHORE DRIVE

DESCRIPTION

Location: Long Beach, Indiana

Originally built in 1921, this Long Beach, IN home had been handed down through three generations and had served the owners well. Widler Architectural was commissioned to design a new 4-bedroom, 3.5-bath home for the family’s summer and holiday getaways.

From the street view, the home is designed to resemble a beach cottage. Lakeside, the home is donned with several windows and sliding glass doors that are enclosed by a three-tier mezzanine. The ground floor includes an outdoor shower and a three-stall changing area for beachgoers, and a ramp extending from the 2.5-car garage allows for watercraft launch by way of a winch.

Using passive solar design principals, the home’s exterior is clad in composite siding able to endure the sun, wind, sand, ice and snow, while broad overhangs deflect the high summer sun for cooling and allows for the low winter sun to enter for warming. Infused by natural surroundings, the home’s color palette blends sand-inspired taupe and water-inspired blue.
