Schmaltz Delicatessen, a true Chicagoland institution, has long been beloved for its mouthwatering corned beef, pastrami, and an iconic menu that keeps patrons coming back. When the time came to meet the rising demand, Schmaltz entrusted Widler Architecture to reimagine their flagship location, creating a space that honored the deli’s roots while expanding its capacity and elevating the customer experience.

The new design introduced a larger dining room, complete with a private event space, a sunlit patio, and even a drive-through—none of which existed in the original location. Our goal was to seamlessly blend functionality with an inviting aesthetic, transforming Schmaltz into not just a neighborhood favorite, but a destination. With these enhancements, the deli now welcomes an even broader customer base, further cementing its place as the go-to spot for fine deli fare in Chicagoland.
